There is no question about it.  Ferguson, Baltimore, and sadly Orlando are all examples where the organized radical left has organized in breathtaking fashion to advocate for an agenda which attacks the founding principles of our nation, sadly exploiting the uneducated "useful idiots" in the process.

In Orlando, the Pulse shooting massacre was not chosen as a vehicle to advance gun control, but rather to push the LGBT agenda. With the help of media partners and a very vocal minority, it has worked like a charm, as Orlando has become a leading gay community. (we don't have an issue with that, only the way it was seemingly forced upon us local residents rather than organically growing).

In fact, in the trial of the gunman's wife, which started this week, The Orlando Sentinel reports that federal prosecutors of Noor Salman considered the attack at Pulse on June 12,2016 was a terrorist act, not a gay club attack. While the media would never agree, we deem this assessment compete accurate.

These well organized groups of the radical left are making great progress, and our nation is paying a heavy price.

One has to wonder how many of our children, who while with heavy hearts wanted to pay tribute to the beautiful souls who were lost on Valentines Day in south Florida, were heavy influenced by the lies presented to them by these dishonest agents of those who aim to change the principles this nation was founded upon.

Perhaps a better course of action today would have been to adopt the words expressed on this wonderful sign making it's way through social media today:

A complaint has led to the potential closing of The Russell Home, a non-profit opened in the 50's in Orlando to give a home to atypical children & adults.

"The Russell Home provides a multitude of services from residential care, 24-hour emergency care, daycare, dance classes, a classroom program, monthly field trips and social events for the special needs community. More importantly we are the 'HOME' for 25 special needs child-like adults, we are their family."

The issue at this time is the "AHCA, or any other State agency, does not have a license category to cover all of the services the Russell Home provides. There are licenses available for each of the individual services, but the State does not allow more than one license under one address."

The expansion of government continues to harm our citizenry.

Hopefully, in the case of this wonderful and loved charitable venture, we pray the issue can be solved and the hearts of many can continue to warmed by the outstanding work they lovingly perform.

Common Core A Free Agency Departure

Common Core is much more about control of the citizenry that building a more productive public school system. It is the federal takeover of the education system, providing the basis for indoctrination of our youngsters. While robbing children of their free agency, it boxes them in and is prohibitive to critical thinking.

Disciples of Death

Over the last several weeks, there have been a series of videos released describing in no uncertain terms the activities underway at Planned Parenthood.  Unless you have been under a rock, you have seen them. Or maybe not, as you were unable to stomach the content.

These undercover videos, presented by the Center for Medical Progress, inform the public of the grotesque and appalling activities of Planned Parenthood, which takes on added significance given of the sad reality our taxpayer dollars are funding these insidious actions. The Alliance Defending Freedom has more.

One can perhaps argue that, although it is logical birth begins at inception, while a collection of cells is engaged performance of an abortion is not murder.  However, at the time these abortions are performed, it is unquestionably murder, as if there was no baby, there would be no parts to sell.

No matter where you fall on the debate of abortion, I hope we can agree this despicable action is sickening and horrifying; and evil.  The folks performing these activities, some with a cavalier attitude buoyed by arrogance, will rot in hell.

I am incensed our government is funding the murder of the unborn with my tax dollars. Given these videos, which document the commerce of selling baby body parts of aborted children, our political leaders can no longer say they were unaware of what taxpayers dollars are funding.

A Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood was blocked by the Senate this past week, as Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said it was not the proper time to do it.  I would like to ask the Senator when the appropriate time might be? When would be a good to stop giving money to an organization the murders unborn children and brokers their body parts for profit?

Sen. Ted Cruz, R:TX, has sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky,early next week urging him not to schedule a vote on legislation that continues to fund Planned Parenthood. “In light of recent and horrific revelations that Planned Parenthood is trafficking in fetal tissue and body parts from abortions, we urge you not to schedule or facilitate the consideration of any legislation that authorizes or appropriates federal dollars for Planned Parenthood."

Actually, Sen. McConnell, the time is now.  And, not withstanding a truckload of other reasons, due to your inexplicable action on this issue, I am calling for your resignation.  Your lack of leadership, equaled in large measure by your House counterpart John Boehner, has significantly contributed to the demise of our nation. In no way, shape or form do either of you RHINO's represent your constituents.  We sent both of you to the leadership by voting in GOP members who promised to stop the transformation enacted by President Obama.. Most of them have failed miserably, and for those who continue to fight you, they have faced punitive retribution for siding against you.

I am against you both, and will work to end your tenure as representatives of the GOP.

The defunding of Planned Parenthood is a noteworthy example of decisions on your behalf that go against GOP principles, and are of assistance to the objectives of the left and President Obama.  While we will exercise our legal options in terminating your elected status, there will be en eternal price to pay for, given an opportunity to stand for life over death, you took death.

Those who support Planned Parenthood, given the knowledge we now have, can only be accurately described as disciples of death.  May God have mercy on you.

The "Hands Up Don't Shoot" movement is an orchestrated movement to raise the status of those deemed victims of oppression in this nation, transfer wealth and set the platform for civil unrest, which would allow the federal government to expand control over the citizenry.

The individuals involved in "Hands Up Don't Shoot" are being played as the intellectually challenged fools they are.

It is so ridiculous that Martin O'Malley, former governor of Maryland and a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016, got hammered in a a forum for claiming that not only do #BlackLivesMatter, but all lives matter.

O'Malley, who was former mayor of Baltimore prior to becoming governor of Maryland, oversaw the destruction of this once proud city, which to any sound thinking individual, would eliminate him from consideration for higher office.

It is worth noting, that not only is O'Malley ineffective as a leader, he has the spine of piece of balsa wood. O'Malley back tracked and apologized in prompt fashion, unable to stand up to left wing morons who claim all lives do not matter.

In addition, O'Malley is an intellectual lightweight, who astonishingly blamed the rise of ISIS on, of all things, global climate change.  With a guy like this in charge, the earth will be as hot as ever when our head gets chopped off by ISIS terrorist running roughshod on America's streets.


Meanwhile, while the media falls all over themselves over the #BlackLivesMatter campaign as they have been directed to do so, videos show Planned Parenthood executives describing the sale of fetal body parts at the organization’s affiliates.

No matter where you fall on the debate of abortion, I hope we can agree this despicable action is sickening and horrifying.

It is noted Hillary Clinton admires PPH founder Margaret Sanger "enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision", which was an evil eugenic vision centered on racism.

I wonder if we can take a moment to think that the current leadership in America, and their complicit media partners, are FAR more concerned with a false, orchestrated premise of oppression over our black inner city citizens than they are of organizations violating federal law by selling body parts of murdered children.

By the way, if late term abortions are tissue rather than living children, what in fact is being sold?

Lacking Toolbox Screwed Phillips

Last week, former Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips, already serving a sentence of 25 years, is suspected in the death of a cellmate in Kern Valley prison in California.

The saga of Phillips has left the wonderful folks in Nebraska with a stain that will not go away.  Phillips brought a lot of joy to Nebraska fans displaying his immense talent on the gridiron. LP was brilliant on the field, with physical talent that potentially could have have led him to be one of the top running backs of all time.

However, his actions off the field, most notably after he left Nebraska for the National Football League, have left nothing but sadness and a series of victims.

One tackle Lawrence could not avoid was his troubled upbringing, where he was abandoned and abused among other negative things. Phillips, who was smart and personable on occasion, was and is infested with demons he is ill-equipped to escape from.

1620 The Zone Sharp & Benning co-host Damon Benning, a former 'Husker tailback who once roomed with Phillips, shared his conflicted thoughts on Phillips with an extremely sincere, emotional and eye opening reflection of sad series of events which led to the position this gifted but troubled individual finds himself in.

This was as powerful of thirty minutes of radio I have heard in many of moon, and I salute Damon Benning for sharing his heartfelt thoughts on this difficult situation as his perspective as a media member, former teammate and friend from back in the day.  POWERFUL STUFF!

Dr. Tom Osborne, who was coach at Nebraska during the time Phillips played at UN, caught tremendous flak from the media when after suspension, Osborne re-instated Phillips before a Fiesta Bowl matchup with Florida, which Nebraska won easily 62-24.  As Benning noted, there was more to this story, and Osborne needs to make no apologies, and deserves respect.

Phillips needs to be held accountable for his own actions; and he is.  But his story is sadly not unique, as the list of many young athletes, and normal youngsters, with bright futures have for whatever reason taken the wrong path and derailed if not terminated the opportunities presented them. Like many others, with an individual like Phillips, blessed with charm, intelligence and incredible physical abilities, failing to be adequately equipped to withstand the pressures of life, the potential of that individual to be a thriving member of society is lost.

Although the reasons behind these failures are voluminous and worthy of a few semesters of sociology classes, the decline of marriage and the family unit with the number of children being raised by one parent, grandparents or others, seems a root cause.  The divorce rate, particularly among blacks, has increased dramatically since the mid sixties, seemingly related to the policies of The Great Society.  The demise of the family has directly had a negative impact on the children, with children raised by single parents much more likely to live in poverty having their future success significantly threatened.

We have got to fix this, and as Benning pointed out, get folks back to having concern for others, with confidence and pride to respect themselves in effort to maximize the wonderful opportunities we are presented with.

Timing is everything, and two candidates have announced their intent to win the presidency.  One, Hillary Clinton, seeks to continue and increase the role government plays in our lives, thinking they can better dictate the path our young people take to success.  Marco Rubio makes the case that the government cannot and should not take the place of the family, and that we need to reclaim the family supporting marriage with parents raising children with responsibility and accountability, thus allowing youngsters the freedom to pursue their dream no matter where the lead.

Having taken an incredible path reaching high levels inclusive of a career in the National Football League, at the end of the day, Phillips could not escape the demons of his past.  As Benning so appropriately noted, he did not have the tools in his toolbox, for which we are all saddened.

The investigation into the death of Phillips cellmate remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed as of yet reports The Omaha World Herald.  However, the death has been ruled a homicide by strangulation.

Futures Begin With A Pop

Over the last several years, it has been a great pleasure of mine to have participated with the events for young athletes and scholars through the Pop Warner organization.  I have attended many a football game, with eyes fixated not only on the gridiron, but on the lovely young cheerleader teams lending their support.

Like any organization of this scope with such a long history, Pop Warner is not without their share of issues. With a strong participation from volunteers, it sort of goes with the territory.  But it should be noted, and it will be here and now, that the opportunities presented to our youth through this fine organization are endless, as the life lessons obtained will power the success of these future leaders for a lifetime.

The regional and national awards banquets are an outstanding avenue of recognition for the scholar athletes, who are recognized not only for their athletic prowess but for their work in the classroom and in the community.

Should you have children of age, I would highly recommend you giving consideration to having your child be participatory in the opportunities afforded within this organization.  Not only have hundreds of thousands of children benefited from their involvement, many parents have as well.  Friendships formed help form the bedrock of  principles many of us as individuals and teammates seek to hold dear.

As my time has expired for intimate involvement, I will cherish with great appreciation the time spent with my family and other families as we supported the fine young people involved, who without doubt, will be the future leaders of this great country.

Tiny Travelers of Both Time and Space

You talk about music education! 

As reported by DailyDot.com, the Louisville Leopard Percussionists were virtually without peers!

These young students perform three Led Zeppelin tunes on vibraphones; a mind boggling exhibition you simply have to hear.

 

The performance drew cheers from none other than famed Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page on his Facebook page; deservedly so.

This music class, yet to be affected by the governmental constraints of Common Core, is no doubt led by a teacher engulfed with innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and a can do attitude, which as you can see at the end of the performance, translated beautifully to the performing children.

Put simply, this was masterful, and I was beyond impressed.

A future as wide as the ocean no doubt awaits these tiny travelers of both time and space. God Speed!

No You Did Not

No you did not.

Well, you said you did.

President Obama spoke arrogantly during the 2012 presidential campaign about how under his direction the war in Iraq was ended.  Not that America won the war, but that he ended it with no American fighting in Iraq.

Somebody forgot to inform our enemies.

Most sensible Americans consider a war ending with a victory, but not so with Obama.  In his arrogance, he thought by simply declaring the war over, it would be so.  Many gullible members of our electorate, drowned in a sea of irrelevance in keeping up with the Kardashians, found his rhetoric credible.

Anybody with a lick of sense knew that beyond winning the war, there was to be an extended level of commitment to ensure the ultimate success of the mission.  Leaving without completing the job, and informing the enemy of our departure time, would create a vacuum which would provide fertile ground for the enemy to gain strength.

Now, Iraq, beyond utter chaos, is the scene of devastation with a terror group inflicting a bloodbath of untold evil on tens of thousands of people, something our bravest spent blood and sacrifices in achievement to prohibit.

In the face of this evil running roughshod, prior to yet another extended vacation of endless golf outings, our President seemed to forget that it was his decision to end the war in Iraq, or at a minimum, that he claimed credit for doing so over and over again.



ISIS is in complete control over there, and due to the feeble response from the White House, we can only conclude that Obama has not quarrel with what has taken place.  Sure, Obama has extended rhetoric of support, but his actions, or lack thereof, speak much louder than his words.

Beginning with the burning of churches some eighteen months ago, these evil terrorists have embarked on a genocidal killing spree of historic magnitude.  Christians are being slaughtered.

While Obama is most concerned about the kids entering our southern border, to the extent of extending privacy rights to them, he apparently places little regard to those kids being brutally murdered.  Beyond crimes against humanity, this is genocide at the hands of extreme evil.

I would call out for someone, anyone, to employ Obama to get his ass off the golf course and put a plan together to combat this evil with the strongest forces available. But in doing so, I would have lost sight of what many Americans cannot bring themselves to believe; Obama is not on our side.

Obama does not appreciate the position America has in the world, thinking it was ill-gotten through theft and violence. Obama has emboldened many of our historic enemies, welcoming members of the Muslim Brotherhood into The White House.  Obama's best foreign friend is the Prime Minister  of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, who is quite friendly with Jihadists across the middle east.

With actions over weighing rhetoric, we note the close ties Obama has with groups and leaders who are supporters of terrorists throughout the region that Obama. Until launching pin prick limited strikes to keep ISIS at bay, Obama has done nothing to stop the horrific slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent people across Iraq.  Of course, these people are in a position to be slaughtered thanks to the idiotic policies implemented by Obama.

It should be noted, if you have not caught on, that the policies we think are idiotic are the same ones Obama thinks are practical and sensible, all part of the objective to bring America down while allowing a caliphate to become established in the middle east.

Although Obama claims to the contrary, we continue to be at war with those who seek our demise.  While foreign enemies seem obvious to identify, those of the domestic side are not as easily uncovered. 

Obama claims he ended the war in Iraq, but he did not win it.  In fact, his actions have enabled those most would consider our enemy and have presented the conditions that have allowed evil to instigate a level of unspeakable terror continuing as we speak. 

Watch the action without absorbing the rhetoric, and the actions enacted by the administration are not those considered beneficial to the historical positions of The United States, or the Christian faith.  Beyond disturbing, it appears Obama does not seek the best interest of either of those parties.

The Blessing of Life

With violence erupting around the world and economic conditions causing pain to many here in America, we can always appreciate those heart warming stories presented to us.

In the sphere of athletics is where I come into contact with many of these stories.  Almost every week, Tom Renaldi of ESPN College Gameday has a tremendous essay involving someone associated with The Color & Pageantry of college football.

Who can forget the tear jerking experience had by young Jack Hoffman at the spring game at The University of Nebraska.  Hoffman, with pediatric brain cancer, was allowed on the field on that day to run for a score, touching anyone with a heartbeat.  Hoffman became a star, and even won an ESPN ESPY Award, and is the face of the Team Jack Foundation.

Florida State University has a couple of such stories making the rounds this week.

Coach Jimbo Fisher and his wife Candi were guest on FOX & Friends on Tuesday morning discussing their Kidz1st Fund, which they created to battle Fanconi Anemia, which Coach Fisher's son Ethan has.  Upon learning of the diagnosis, the Fisher's decided to appropriately utilize their position to help bring awareness to Fanconi Anemia, and they report strides are being made.

Another story making the rounds in Seminole nation is that of Peyton Poulin.  Former Seminole Club of Greater Orlando president Fred More recounts a story:

Six years ago Payton Poulin was the guest of Sherri Holstrum, his art teacher, at the spring banquet of the Seminole Club of Greater Orlando.  As a friend of Sherri and past president of the Seminole Club of Greater Orlando, I had the honor of introducing Payton to Bobby Bowden, then, of introducing Payton to the 300 plus Seminole Boosters in attendance.

Following the telling of this very moving story, Rob Sahlin and Bill Neal, on cue, lifted Payton and his Seminole bedecked wheel chair into the air, all the while Payton giving the Seminole Chop a heavy dose of lifelong devotion and enthusiasm.  Coach Bowden led the standing ovation, while a number of us tried to hold back the tears of shear admiration.

This was noted in an editorial piece by Scott Maxwell in his Taking Names column in The Orlando Sentinel titled, "As kids die, Florida continues costly crusade against gun safety." Maxwell is torqued about a law prohibiting doctors, pediatricians and psychiatrists, from inquiring about patient practices regarding gun ownership, usage and firearm safety. 

Maxwell notes that these conversations, similar to those about dangerous chemicals, commonplace and voluntary, make perfect sense and result in saving lives.

I have never had such discussions with my doctors.  Ole Doc never informed me to be careful around gas tanks, to keep a keen eye out for that outboard motor propeller or issued pointers on any of the items I learned about in the Boy Scouts.

Maxwell described the law presented by freshman state Rep. Jason Brodeur, R-Sanford, who Maxwell opined "wanted to imprison doctors who asked such questions and fine them up to $5 million."  Although this was passed in the Legislature, Maxwell noted a federal judge blocked it, citing it as unconstitutional.

Then, as Maxwell notes in his column, at the NRA's urging, Florida Governor Rick Scott appealed the decision, costing taxpayers who pay for the state to defend the bill. Maxwell finds the state arguments "laughable" while I find the forced doctor inquisitions directed under Obamacare a violation of citizen rights of privacy.

I agree with Maxwell, that this law should not exist, but not for the reasons he cites in his column. As the federal judge who struck the law down said, "The law directly targets protected expression by restricting it."

Sadly; however, under Obamacare, physicians have been charged with obtaining, through these types of "conversations", information to relay to the government regarding household gun ownership.  Is this a back door way of obtaining a gun registry?

My trust of the Obama administration is pegged right there at zero, and the nation is beginning to catch on.  Although anyone may inquire, my physician has no right to seek out and report gathered information regarding my personal life as part of a data mining operation on behalf of the federal government.  Maxwell fails to mention that an ongoing effort to, at a minimum, restrict the second amendment is fully engaged by the administration and was likely the catalyst for the chain of events he has discussed.

Nobody, including The State of Florida, is against gun safety; in fact, it is encouraged and continuously taught across the state.  Instances where guns are participatory in the loss of lives, outside of law enforcement and the lawful defense of life or property by our citizens, almost exclusively occurs by those who would not be deemed as responsible gun owners, although accidents unfortunately take place.

I am sure Maxwell is a great guy, a family man and deeply cares for children across the state, but accidents in a myriad of ways unfortunately kill many children in our state, perhaps most notably drownings in swimming pools.  But, even for the most diligent Obamabot, these deaths don't fit the narrative and would be tough to place blame on the GOP in similar fashion to firearm related deaths.  Hence, harm to children is utilized to tug the heartstrings to advocate for a political agenda.

In Florida, trying to pick out the progressive mouthpieces masquerading as sensible representatives of the citizenry is a tough task.

Evil Transcends Weaponry

On Friday, our nation was kicked in the gut by an unspeakable tragedy; a homegrown terrorist assault on our most prized representatives of the hope and promise of our United States; our beloved children. Twenty little angels were lost, and their families are deveastated and forever altered.

 

As my brother correctly stated on Friday evening, this attack on these innocent and helpless children carries a greater emotional pain for our citizens than the horrific events of September 11, 2001. To imagine the Christmas gifts that will not be opened is beyond heartbreaking.

 

As a Dad, and a proud American, I know my family joins millions around the world in praying for comfort for those who were directly affected by this unspeakable attack. A true act of evil.

 

Newtown looks like such a lovely place, and in the aftermath of the tragedy we learn of the heroic efforts of the staff at the school in their attempts to protect those little angels of students. The brave first responders also demonstrated an incredible level of professionalism. God Bless You All!

 

One thing I am quite clear on is that President Obama loves his two beautiful daughters, and he feels the pain of this tragedy like most all parents. It was an act of faith in many ways for parents across America to send our kids off to school this morning. "We can't tolerate this anymore," Obama said. Rarely am I in agreement with President Obama, but I concur that carnage of our citizens at soft targets around the country strongly suggests that America has some questions to answer.

 

Obama excels as Consoler and Chief, and his opening and closing comments at the service in Newtown last evening were surely heartfelt and meaningful as our nation weeps. However, in the middle of the speech Obama went on offense conveying how he will use the power of his office to regulate change, and I find it concerning. Will his effort bring out the post partisan leadership many who supported him have longed for, or will he utilize a crisis to obtain political victories only possible during times of tragedy.

 

While Obama engages America in welcomed rhetoric standing above, for the most part, engaging in the politics of this tragedy, his surrogates are on high octane offense. Former Obama COS Rahm Emanuel has called for a nationwide assault weapons ban, he of the "never let a crisis go to waste" gameplan. Over at CNN, Soledad Obrien, who can hardly contain her emotional support of Obama, has urged Obama to track people and firearms.  New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who literally wants to govern your life, has called for an enforceable assault weapons ban.  Over at MSNBC, Joe Scarborough, who claims to be the "resident" conservative, said Friday changed everything and has reversed course in the aftermath of the events and has changed his long held position on gun laws.

 

I am not a gun owner, although I have been considering taking the initial steps of becoming one. It is my right as an American. But taking in these comments, I can only conclude the left is obviously going after the guns; and those who own them, period.  Sadly, as the administration has changed the conversation by muddling the definitions of so many words, we must adequately define what would be considered an "assault" weapon prior to having an honest dialogue.

 

Perhaps some styles of military style weapons and "cop killer" ammunition are not reasonable for the citizens to own.  However, if this were to be recognized in a common sense debate would it be met as moving the Overton Window and taken as a step in winning political positions for the Democrats?  I suspect so, therefore any willingness to give any ground on the issue exhibiting common sense will not be given.  

 

I am hopeful President Obama will step back and examine the entirety of these complex issues, which contrary to his surrogates calling for immediate action in strengthening gun control, is about far more than attacking the Second Amendment. After a touching speech after Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot, Obama failed miserably to corral the divisive rhetoric he found inappropriate In fact, Obama stoked the fire on numerous occasions.  Often, the rhetoric of Obama offers optimism, but pessimism underlay his actions.

 

However, I am skeptical he will do so, as I do not find President Obama and his surrogates as honest brokers.  Just last week, actor Jamie Foxx, a big Obama supporter and friend, spoke of gleefully "killing all the white people" in his new movie.  About that rhetoric Mr. President? 

 

While I am not a fan of commissions, a recommendation I heard last night to perhaps have retiring Senator Joe Lieberman (I:CT) to lead such an investigation seems to hold merit.  Many aspects need to be reviewed, inclusive of but not limited to mental illness, youngsters who place zero value on life, political correctness limiting God in our public discourse, child abuse, Hollywood and video games, which desensitize killing.

 

However, we must note that the individual who committed the crime is responsible for his actions, and those of us law abiding citizens should not be punished with a loss of liberty due to his reprehensible actions.

 

Freedom is not without high costs; however, if we are unable to adequately protect our children, we must examine the factors at play which prohibit that from happening and promptly address them.

 

President Obama has an opportunity here to lead in a meaningful way as our President.  Should Obama join his surrogates already in effort to seize the day in attacking the Second Amendment

implemented so our citizenry may be armed to thwart an oppressive and tyrannical government, I will join those is stiff opposition.

 

The Obama administration is among the most power grabbing administrations in history, closely resembling in many ways the FDR years in moving the Overton Window from liberty towards tyranny.  Evidence does not suggest they have a deep concern for constitutional rights, as Obama has proclaimed it an imperfect document.

 

Perhaps it would be wise to, once again, receive guidance during these times from Ronald Reagan:

 

 

Evil is always opportunistic, no matter what weapon. However, the power of God will rule the day. Our hearts bleed for those affected in Newtown, but evil will ultimately be defeated. We must all do our part to make it so.

 

We will continue to mourn with those in Newtown, and will forever remember those God has called home much too early.  God Bless those little angels lost, the brave school administrators who lost their lives, extended families and friends, the fine folks of Newtown and the United States of America.

 

Deserved Taming of the Lions

In the wide wake of the horrific child sex abuse scandal associated with former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, in a unprecedented and stunning move, the NCAA this morning announced staggering penalties against Penn State University and its once storied football program. Although Penn State was sparred the death penalty, they may have gotten worse.

The wide ranging penalties include probation for five years, $60 million in sanctions, four-year bowl ban, the vacating of all wins from 1998-2011 and the loss of 10 scholarships per year for four years. Current Nittany Lion players have also been given the opportunity to transfer away from the program without penalty.

In addition, the Big Ten Conference censured Penn State, banned them from the league championship game for four years and will prohibit Penn State from receiving television revenue for for years, donating the funds to children's charities to be named later. In conjunction with Penn State vacating the wins, former Coach Joe Paterno, who passed away earlier this year, losses these victories as well and will no longer be recorded in NCAA records as the winningest coach.

We can all agree the Sandusky is nothing short of a monster. As far as Paterno, there are differing opinions regarding the level of his involvement in helping to conceal the horrendous actions of Sandusky. In the aftermath of a scathing report from former FBI Director Louis Freeh, the new brass at Penn State decided a statue of Paterno outside the football stadium would be removed. It was the right move.

For decades, as we witnessed a seemingly clean program in State College, we were told nothing happened up there without Paterno knowing about. Paterno advocates now want us to buy that he had limited knowledge if any regarding the activities of Sandusky.

Certainly, Paterno is not guilty of the vicious crimes of Sandusky.  However, it is more than reasonable to conclude that Paterno had some knowledge of these actions and rather than demanding a full investigation put a stop to it, in an effort to protect his reputation, and that of the University and football program, Paterno stood silent.

University officials administering athletic programs certainly seek to compete and win, but there is much more to winning than the scoreboard.  Although there are many who place Joe Pa in the highest of regard, including droves of former players who are highly regarded athletes and pillars of society, it is most unfortunate that under the watch of the Penn State staff, led by Paterno, children were violated in the very worst of ways.

Therefore, the penalties were appropriate, including the dismantling of the Paterno legacy.

I am reminded of a quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer:  "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act."

Unfortunately, particularly for the children who lost their innocence, when faced with evil, those with the power to act failed us all

Cage The Lions in Jail

Over the weekend, word got out on a developing story regarding the Penn State football program. I wish we were talking about play for pay, booster cash, ineligible players or academic fraud, etc. We are not. Unfortunately, this story, despicable in every aspect, involves a betrayal of moral behavior we hold dear, the innocence and protection of our children.

Former Nittany Lion Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky has been indicted on felony sex abuse charges involving minors, with the indictment covering 40 counts. Sadly, the activities of Sandusky have been going on for quite some time.

Sandusky retired from Penn State in 1999, and now we know this was in the aftermath of an incident involving potential child sex abuse. Sandusky, who wrote an autobiography titled "Touched", kept an office at Penn State to run his "The Second Mile" Children's Charity.

As information comes to light on the events that led up to Sandusky's arrest, it appears administration officials at Penn State at a minimum failed to recognize the severity of the crimes and alert the proper authorities. This sadly includes Joe Paterno.

Athletic Director Tim Curley and Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Gary Schultz were hit with a count of perjury each, and both have reportedly resigned. This is the beginning of what should be a house cleaning of the entire administration, which should also include the University President Graham Spanier. Joe Paterno also must go, for he obviously cannot adequately supervise the football program given the events that have come to light.

Spencer Hall of SB Nation makes the case those involved failing to act with moral responsibility regarding the actions of Sandusky.

It would be great if this were all a bad dream and none of this happened, and while nobody has been convicted of anything at this point, as it is, this story makes everyone reading about it sick. It appears, due to the negligence of Penn State officials, the abuse of additional victims could have been prevented but was not.

You can read much about the story on the above referenced links, but the reputation of Penn State University, enhanced greatly over the years by the football program ran by legendary Coach Joe Paterno, may be tarnished beyond repair.

If these allegations are proven true, Sandusky should be fortunate to see another sunset. Everyone else who knowingly participated in this cover-up should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Sadly, the lives of the victims are forever negatively altered, with more incidents potentially to emerge.

For Penn State University, and its once highly respected football program, the long road to recovery should begin with everyone associated with this story being fired before Nebraska visits Un-Happy Valley this Saturday.

Global Warmists Turn Up The Heat

You would think with the hockey stick phenomenon, the central basis for much of the global climate change argument, being exposed, the environmental alarmists may move on to something more worthwhile. It it were about the climate, they may have. But, as we have noted, it is not about climate but rather a tug at the heart strings vehicle to spearhead and implement the global transfer of wealth.

Like wounded animals, and with the mainstream media remaining steadfast in support, the global warming crowd has accelerated the elements of advancing the cause. No longer satisfied with efforts to nudge the public for support, the movement is now shoving, and hard.

If your like me, your wallet is fairly thin these days and the thought of increasing taxpayers expenditures advancing this hoax, or actually transferring our wealth, is appalling. Enter the National Science Foundation.

As reported by The Heritage Foundation, The National Science Foundation (NSF) is “an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 ‘to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense.’” It can now add “fund plays on climate change” to that list.

The Heritage Foundation cites an article in The New York Times which reports that the NSF will advance $700,000 to help find the production of “The Great Immensity,” which aims to "explore the emotional and psychological aspects of the current environmental crisis.”

Not a stranger to the Great White Way, I always enjoy an evening on Broadway. However, I do not appreciate my tax dollars footing the tab for a production to promote the crisis of global climate change.

Usually, Europeans trend ahead of Americans, as we have noted in the recent riots over entitlements in Greece. In England, the global warming alarmists are simply out of control, and one can only hope this nonsense is thwarted before hitting out shores. Get a load of this series of commercials:



That is a sick effort indeed to try to shove someone into reducing their carbon footprint. Presented by the folks at 10:10Global, the outrage over the short film advertisements has caused the group to issue an apology, and rightfully so. The Blaze has more.

I got a news flash for everyone. Global warming is a hoax and there is no current environmental crisis!

Therefore, in an effort to expand my carbon footprint, I plan to test run some 0-60s in the Pontiac Grand Prix V8GXP this weekend before shooting down to Miami in the Chevy Trailblazer for some football. Miami? Hey maybe I'll tow the boat down there, fire up the V8 MerCruiser on my 23 foot Regal and hear some voices.

It is unfortunately apparent that the history of The United States of America is being forgotten, and in many cases, rewritten.

It is our responsibility to re-engage and bring ourselves up to speed, since before we can aim to dictate the course of America going forward, we must understand how we got here.

$26 Billion Fraud

We have an emergency! With many states, who criminally spent exponentially beyond their annual budgetary moving average, if they even have one (Uncle Sam does not), now need major bailouts and with the school year about to begin, thousands of teachers need to be paid. Quick, please help!

Enter House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who should be relieved of her speakership the first Tuesday in November, to save the day by calling the House back from summer recess. Oh thank heaven, not for 7-11, but for a $26 billion aid package which was passed yesterday to ease the pain of the states and keep those teachers employed.

Well, not so fast my friend! Enter Rep. Michele Bachmann (R:MN) to hit us with some common sense on the subject:



The problems with this aid bill are plentiful. First, half of the stimulus remains unspent (and passage of that was a hair on fire emergency). States, meanwhile, are in immediate need of some extensive belt tightening, and Governor Chris Christie (R) of New Jersey has a playbook to offer.

And if I hear one more time about the firemen and teachers, who without further stimulus (bailouts), massive layoffs among them will cause significant civil decay, I may blow a gasket. Would the possibility of reducing bloated staff elsewhere in localities be possible? Why always the teachers, police and fireman?

It is not about them. It is about power, and the theft of taxpayer money to support the unions who represent these folks. Don't argue with me, just listen to the retirement of the outgoing General Council of the National Educators Association.



I am at a loss for words to describe the idiots clapping. But Mr. Chanin is right. It is not about the children for the NEA, it is about their power.

I am all for the advancing the education of our greatest asset, our children. However, I am beyond tired of these bureaucrats stealing my tax dollars for the benefit of union executives and members, and the funneling of cash to Democratic campaigns across the land.

Three Legs or Four Pillars

There are few politicians these days that totally understand the dire situation Uncle Sam finds himself in these days, but one who does is Representative Paul Ryan, (R:WI), who made an appearance on CNBC's Squawk Box last week, and his commentary has been the talk of the blogosphere, including here on BAHL's Blog. Ryan is a real star on the Republican side, and his specialty is economics, which is critically important during these times.

With Ryan in as guest host, the crew welcomed Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D), a member of President Obama national commission on fiscal responsibility (stop laughing), to discuss the current economic conditions, which contrary to Obama's "Summer of Recovery Tour", are not pretty.

Not to bore the batcrap out of the audience, but we are really at a crossroads this November, and a stark contrast to Ryan's limited government and Schakowsky's Keynesian model of big government stimulus is made during this interview, which is a must see.



The stimulus spending has been a epic failure, as we predicted it would be. Unemployment is still hovering near 10% and will go higher in upcoming months. Rep. Schakowsky thinks government spending creates jobs, which Ryan accurately points out is created by small business, who remain afraid of excessive government regulatory encroachment, increased taxation and the uncertainty of future governmental action, which includes uncontrollable spending.

For example, under the control of the Democrats, the House has yet to put forth a budget. Can you imagine the biggest increase in governmental spending in our history being implemented without a budget!

Rep. Schakowsky, clearly struggling for friction in the interview, was contradictory in statements about decreasing the debt, labeling decreasing spending as one of the three legs of a stool to economic stability and reducing the debt. Schaloswky has supported all of Obama's expansive spending measures, which have exponentially increased the debt.

Schakowsky labeled the three legs of her stool to economic stability as decreased spending, raising revenue and growth. Well, do not sit on this stool because the policies of the Obama administration, with full support from Schakowsky, has increased spending, is losing tax revenue from business tax receipts and is barely growing, even with the astronomical levels of stimulus. In fact, the growth may be short lived as a double dip recession remains a strong possibility.

Ronald Reagan found four pillars to a strong economy; sound money, low taxes, limited regulation and free trade. Each of these pillars is currently being legislated against, so you make the call.

Ryan cleans Schakowsky's clock during this discussion, with CNBC's Becky Quick even getting in on the fun. Without question, Schakowsky should be among the very first voted out of office at the earliest opportunity.

Schalowsky, a progressive, it should be noted, was one of the strongest supporters of the health care bill. The goal of course was a single payer health care system, and she was quite giddy about how it would put insurance companies out of business, killing hundreds of thousands of private sector jobs.



In closing, did you hear Rep. Schakowsky mention how Rep. Ryan voted against more money to teachers. Funding for teachers, and in fact the entire budget for the public school system, is a train wreck, but not for the reasons you may think. You can place the blame on the National Educators Association. You would think they put kids first, but think again:



It is clear Rep. Schakowsky is borderline clueless, and I am not only one who recognizes this. With politicians like Rep. Jan Schakowsky in charge, the financial standing of our country, as well as your freedoms, is in substantial danger. Please be advised.
