Great Entertainment

While the writers strike was in full force, many Americans were searching for top notch entertainment. In watching the Democratic debates, I found a a tremendous outlet for such entertainment.

Of particular note is John Edwards. This cat is as phony as they come. A trial lawyer who made gazillions defending "common folk" who were supposedly wronged by corporate America, Edwards claimed his support of the less fortunate was a lifelong fight.

He often spoke of "two Americas", where in his mind, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. In a recent story in The Wall Street Journal, complete with the chart supplied by the US Treasury Department, we see that Edwards is fraudulently incorrect.

I recognize newspapers are not often credible, or in some cases, such as The New York Times, unable to spot the truth at the front door. The Wall Street Journal, however, is highly reputable.

The fact is the lowest income citizens are doing better than ever. Opportunties exist for these folks that most thought not possible decades ago. Homeownership, even with the subprime crisis, is near record levels. Most low income folks have automobiles, cell phones and cable television.

Edwards, soundly defeated in the campaign, should immediately toss his 30 some odd delegates to whichever progressive socialist he prefers, and go away. I will miss him, for he provided me great entertainment.

Global War On Terror: Iraq

It seems the nightly barrage of negative mistruths about Iraq have gone the way of the uproar over port control the media blasted us with for a season a year or so ago.

In fact, our effort in Iraq, which is a component in the Global War on Terror, is going fairly well.

Everyone, including the house of Clinton, was certain that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. I could post quotes from such folks until the cows come home. It is easy today to hammer 43 with arm chair quarterbacking since no such weapons were found, even though I would contend they were in fact there.

Under Saddam, Iraq consistently violated treaties signed under the UN (a complete waste of time). While patrolling the no-flight zone, US planes were shot at by Iraq over 800 times.

When given ample opportunity to comply with the UN resolutions, the Iraqi regime laughed, taunted and tortured. So they got what was coming to them, thankfully.

After a stunning initial engagement, things bogged down a bit. Idiots like Cindy Sheehan dominated media attention. Meanwhile, our armed forces continued to excel. Thanks to General David Petreaus and his superb leadership, mountainous strides have taken place leading us to where we are now, which is truly a mission accomplished.

This is a strategic battle in the war on terror. Al Qeada, although not directly complicit in the attacks of 9-11, is and has been in Iraq and is getting it handed to them left and right. This battle is better fought in Iraq than Texas Stadium. I have played Risk and a quick check of the geography illustrates the importance of our current position, particularly given that Iran is the head of the snake.

Don't let the media fool you. We are at war with evil islamic terrorists and the effort in Iraq is a critically important component of this struggle. With apologies to Obama, we should park it right where we are until we are clearly the victors in the global war on terror. Thankfully, our armed forces are the best in the world.

God Bless Our Troops!

Cut Em Loose!!!!

The high banks of Daytona International Speedway will be the setting as we cut them loose for the 50th running of the Great American Race on Sunday, February 17th. Here are a few sights from Thursdays Twins.

Bobby Labonte and Kyle Petty return to the track after a stop on pit road during Gatorade Duel #1. Bobby ran well but Kyle has some work to do before we drop the rag Sunday.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. shows the way on his way to victory in the Gatorade Duel #1. Junior is the favorite for the 500 and should be a force all year driving for Rick Hendrick.

Global War on Terror

Have you forgotten? Astonishingly, many have.

I have not. Simply put, Islamic terrorists are trying to kill us.

Election season has presented us with quite a contrast regarding the global war on terror. One side is not clear about it and wants to withdraw our troops from areas of engagement where death and injury are occuring. They approach it from the point of view that we should leave them alone.

Another side has a clear understanding of what faces us and is determinded to remain on offense against the most brutal killers of our time. Victory, not surrender, is the only option. The terrorists wish to dismantle our way of living as they despise our freedoms we hold so dear. And they will chop our heads off without the blink of an eye.

Thourough discussions about raising the minimum wage have a place at the table, but debate after debate with the battle of our time hardly mentioned is mind boggling and dangerous. It appears the politicians and American people both forgot what September 11 felt like.

Have you been to ground zero recently? It is tough to visit, as I do annually, and it will grab your attention by the throat. A stomach turning reminder of sacrifices by our fellow citizens.

We need a President who will terminate the terrorists before they kill us. Among the candidates, I know who that is, and so do you!

The Great Communicator

"Just for the record, I'm speaking in jest here. Of course, some of you think I've been doing that for eight years now"--Ronald Reagan

Unfortunately, listening to many of the candidates these days, the list of those dazed and confused appears to be growing.

Happy Birthday President Reagan. We sure do miss you!

DOW Plunges 370?

Media reports suggest the catalyst behind the plunge of the US financial markets today was a weak report issued by the ISM non-manufacturing index, which is a measure of service sector activity. Odds favor the mainstream media has no idea what drives the markets. What exactly pushed the markets down is conjecture.

The ISM number is a lagging indicator, and when we last had a number this low, we were emerging from recession. The number is usually a prime candidate for backward revisions and I would not trade based solely on this one indicator.

We remain in bearish territory at this time. The emergence of some leadership is required to lead us into a bullish position, and there are some damaged charts out there. Perhaps some favorable election results could provide a catalyst.

Since I might be at the 7-11 getting a big gulp when the bottom is placed, I think down moves like this present dollar cost averaging opportunities, particularly over the long term.

Preserve the Dolphin history

In honor of the 1972 Miami Dophins, like most of the country, I will be hoping and praying the New York football Giants can defeat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl XLII.

It seems fitting to think of Larry Csonka on this day, since during his NFL career he played for two teams; the Fins and the Giants.

For all us Dolphins out there, Go Giants!
