South Carolina All America running back Marcus Lattimore, who battled back from a severe knee injury a year ago, suffered a devastating and gruesome knee injury on his other knee at a home contest against Tennessee. It was tough to watch. Lattimore is a top talent, but his persona, attitude and work ethic is what has impressed those who know compete against him. In fact, shortly after the injury, the twitter world blew up with NFL players including RGIII to the football program at arch rival Clemson tweeting support and prayers for Lattimore.  That support is testament to the respect his fellow gridiron competitors and fellow athletes in various sports have for Lattimore. In addition, it is that type of sportsmanship in athletics that help mold young men into solid citizens. This level of sportsmanship was exhibited in the below picture as the majority of the visiting Tennessee team met Lattimore at mid field to express their well wishes. I join them wishing Marcus Lattimore a full and speedy recovery, and sincerely hope he has many afternoons in football ahead of him.

Tennessee players join Gamecocks in display of sportsmanship.

Florida State welcomed the Duke Blue Devils to Tallahassee, who astonishingly sit atop the Coastal Division of the ACC.  Under Coach David Cutcliffe, Duke is very much improved and is bowl eligible. Although the Blue Devils have a strong passing attack, they are no match for the Seminoles. FSU was not sharp, as usual, but efficient enough to strike early and often in jumping on Duke early and controlling the rest of the way winning convincingly, 48-7. Christan Jones from Winter Park Lake Howell gets the game ball, and Devonta Freeman had a strong afternoon carrying the pigskin.  FSU now sits 8-1 with a bye week before taking on Virginia Tech on the road a week from Thursday in a huge game. Stranger things have happened, but the Seminoles need tons of help to get into the title game discussion, but they should forget thinking about that and take care of their own business.

Nebraska welcomed Michigan to Lincoln for the first time in a century, but with elusive signal caller Dennard Robinson of Deerfield Beach running the Wolverine offense, the task seemed daunting for a Blackshirt defense that has struggled mightily against quarterbacks with similar skills.  The 'Huskers opened with a defensive plan to keep Robinson in front of them, bending but not giving up explosive plays.  The philosophy was working well, and then disaster struck; for Michigan.  Robinson was knocked out the game with a nerve injury that was never elaborated upon for the television viewers.  With a backup freshman quarterback for Michigan, the game was over.  Martinez, hobbled himself, was efficient, made good decisions and helped generate more than enough offense to win, and was doing it before and after Robinson's injury.  Sean Fisher gets the game ball for the Blackshirts. This was an excellent win for the Big Red, although the national media may think it came only because of the Robinson injury, which is not so.  Nebraska goes to East Lansing Saturday controlling their destiny in their division, so the Rose Bowl is there for the taking.

Florida gave Georgia the game at the Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, fumbling and stumbling around some kind of bad awful.  But the Dawgs, and Jarvis Jones, stepped up and forced many of the Gator turnovers.  Now Georgia controls SEC destiny....The Aggies of Texas are pretty dog gone good, blasting Auburn, but the Aggies of Mississippi ran into a buzz saw named Alabama and got bombed....Ohio State whipped Penn State while Mich State dumped Wisconsin in the BIG...Giovani Bernard had a career day as UNC beat state rival N. C. State after blowing a 15 point lead.....Ohio was knocked from the unbeaten by Miami of Ohio, and Lou Holz alma mater Kent State worked over unbeaten Rutgers....UCLA outlasted Arizona State, and Arizona outlasted preseason title contender USC....Washington upset previously unbeaten Oregon State, and we did see that one coming....Notre Dame physically handled OU, and once again, the Sooners failed to stand up when it counted.  OU is soft or undisciplined or both, but Notre Dame overpowered them.....Minnesota pounded Purdue, who did not shake off the Ohio State loss....South Carolina shook off the aforementioned Lattimore injury to hold off Tennessee 38-35...Louisville held off Cincinnati in overtime...Clemson pounded Wake at Wake....Northwestern controlled Iowa....Texas barely won at Kansas, and the Longhorns have issues.....Ole Miss took out Arkansas....BYU roughed up Georgia Tech, and the Yellow Jacket season is lost.....UCF got a big win at Marshall and are in good C-USA shape.
