Just Good Ole Boys, Never Meaning No Harm

Just good ole boys; never meaning no harm.

The Dukes of Hazzard
Several years ago, I remember Glenn Beck saying that in a few years, you will not recognize your country. We have arrived at that destination in a thunderclap of wreckage not witnessed since the Bandit ran through a funeral procession while Buford T. Justice was in high speed pursuit.

In the aftermath of some asshole racist punk murdering some of America's finest citizens in Charleston last month, the left has seized the opportunity to take political correctness, as they see fit, to mind boggling levels. With their main goals set at, as Michelle Obama stated, at changing our history and traditions, the Confederate Flag, or some semblance of it, has now been banned everywhere.

And with political correctness completely run amok, Viacom has pulled the classic favorite "The Dukes of Hazzard" from rerun circulation on channels they own, most notably TV Land and CMT Television.  Fans of the show, those who support free speech and folks who have had it to their eyeballs with political correctness, are seething.

Viacom can show hour after hour of television that is offensive to many, with sexual situations, murders, conspiracy and hours of endless reality shows, but for the love of Pete, The Dukes of Hazzard is much too offensive with that flag on the roof of the car.

Actually, Viacom can show whatever they want on their network, and they can be as politically correct as they wise. However, I can choose not to watch their product, or invest in their company (VIAB:NASD), whose stock price is challenging yearly lows.

The General Lee
Although the show was very successful,  both during the initial CBS run and in rerun circulation, even though it had a hot chick and a fast car, two of my favorites, I was never a big fan. The chick, Catherine Bach, was nothing short of fantastic and the car, The General Lee, a 1969 Dodge Charger, was a hot rod to be sure.

I hardly ever caught this show on reruns.  However, the removal of "The Dukes of Hazzard" from the airways is symbolic of the absolute ridiculousness of the level of political correctness in this nation at the moment. You might say folks have lost their mind, but you must recognize this is an effort by the progressives to remove any traditional items from the marketplace and change our history, moving us to a different place they, not you, deem appropriate.

Even NASCAR, home to the real good ole boys, is running scared and has asked those attending the Coke Zero 400 on Sunday to leave their Confederate Flags at home or exchange them for an American Flag at the World Center of Racing on raceday.

Just good ole boys, never meaning no harm, which is no matter to the progressive left, who think they know what is proper for us to consume.  I do not plan to let them steal my rights without a fight.

Media Snapshot

Rush Limbaugh very accurately points out that there is no real news media.

Talking points are derived by the powers that be, distributed to participatory media outlets which include ABC, CBS, and NBC.  They are then presented to the public in cohesive fashion.

For those interesting in testing this theory, compilations of key words from the participatory media outlets have been put together, and while entertaining, the reality of the failure of the media to be objective is no laughing matter.

Without question, the mainstream media is completely in the tank for President Obama, and in not pursuing him with relevant questions on issued of constitutional and national security violations, they are deemed criminally complicit.

In recent years, beauty pageants, of all things, have brought glaring example of this theory, cementing its authenticity.

Sunday night,  Ian Ziering, an actor from Beverly Hills 90210, asked Miss Louisiana whether the government was right to release five Guantanamo Bay prisoners in exchange for American POW Bowe Bergdahl.  Miss Nevada, Nia Sanchez, who went on to win Miss USA, was asked about about the high rate of sexual assaults on college campuses.  The fourth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do demonstrated Tae (strength of mind) and scored big points with her answer.

If only President Obama would get questions he did not see previously that asked appropriate questions the citizenry would like to know.

Dennis Miller agrees.

Clock of the Heart

Last night,  I reported a major shark jump on the evening. It is not even Thanksgiving, and yet Rudolph is courting Clarice on CBS television. Good Grief!

The rush of engaging in the Christmas shopping season seems to have overtaken the real meaning behind each of the three holidays during this time period, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.

Thanksgiving was created by George Washington to give thanks to our creator, God, for the blessings we have received.  Christmas, of course, celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, as our Father gave his only Son to forgive us for our sins.  New Years represents a new beginning, an opportunity to redirect and eliminate the branches of evil that prohibit us from reaching our full potential.

We should give proper credence to the holiday of Thanksgiving, so important that the indispensable man George Washington thought it worthy of recognition. Thomas Jefferson found it so meaningful it required annual recognition, which is why our nation celebrates this day annually.

After we give thanks for the blessings we have been granted, we can move on to the celebration of Christmas and then seek the opportunity to reach redemption and make the new year better than the previous one.

As a capitalist, I hope everyone can enjoy the shopping for gifts till your hearts content, but please remember the reason for the season and recognize the blessings and opportunities we have been given.

In closing, a memo to the national television networks.  Please give paramount consideration to the chronological order of these holidays, for this is a tradition we are not in favor of changing, even if it is the wish of our current First Lady.

Crashing Arrogance

It had all the earmarks of something historic. Never did I think anyone in the public eye could reach to the level of our anointed President in terms of arrogance. After all, few can match the intellectual reach of the teleprompter in chief. That he takes timeout his day to engage us is something we should behold. Ugh!

Then comes Charlie Sheen. I remember him in the movie Wall Street. Although I have never watched one minute of his top rated CBS sitcom, I recognize that he is a top television star. He is obviously a wild partier, and appears to love mixing it up with porn stars. However, in a recent ABC interview, Sheen thinks he is galaxies above us real world folk and that we should marvel at the opportunity to watch from afar his level of brilliance.

I got a news flash for Sheen. Few, if anyone, could care. For Sheen to think we aspire to be married to marginal chicks while dating porn stars and chain smoking our way to lung cancer is laughable. He is rich in coin, but in little if anything else.

Obama will no doubt remain arrogant, but it appears Sheen is in need of some help, and I hope he finds the answers he is yet to start looking for.

Barkleys Best of The West

Recently, The Western Writers of America released their list of The Greatest TV Western Series of All Time, and CBS's long running series Gunsmoke topped the list.

The top five, as determined by the organization of some "600 writers founded in the 1950s to promote and honor the best literature about the American West" is as follows:

1. Gunsmoke (1955-75)
2. Maverick (1957-62)
3. Rawhide (1959-66)
4. Bonanza (1959-73)
5. Have Gun, Will Travel (1957-63)

Although only two of these ran current within my lifetime, I have watched episodes of four of the five and cannot quarrel with the findings of the group. Certainly, Gunsmoke and Bonanza have to rank high on any ones list.

I have a clear cut favorite and it came in ranked at 14, and that is The Big Valley. The Big Valley, which ran current from 1965-69 on ABC television, portrayed the Barkley clan of Stockton, CA. The cast consisted of Miss Barbara Stanwyck as Victoria Barkley, Linda Evans as Audra Barkley, Richard Long as Jarrod Barkley, Lee Majors as Heath Barkley and Peter Breck as Nick Barkley. Napoleon Whiting played the butler Silas.

Miss Barbara Stanwyck was quite an established actor prior to the series and added immediate credibility to the cast. Lee Majors went on to not only marry Farrah Fawcett, but star as The Six Million Dollar Man (watched every episode) and as The Fall Guy on ABC while Linda Evans is well known for her role of Krystle Carrington on ABC's Dynasty. The show had great story lines, and while Jarrod was often off handling legal responsibilities at his law office, Nick and Heath were kicking ass whenever necessary.

The Big Valley was a great show and, by far, my favorite western.
