CNBC's Griffeth Takes Leave

Veteran CNBC anchor Bill Griffeth is taking one year leave from the network to pursue adventure with his wife. Griffeth released the following statement:

“First let me address all of the conspiracy theories: I’m not sick, I’m not being pushed out, and I’m not going on Dancing With The Stars. It’s pretty straightforward. My wife and I are new empty-nesters, so after 28 years of doing business on TV now seems like a good time to take a break, do some traveling, work on a couple of book projects, and shave strokes off of my golf handicap. I will probably turn up on the air.”

Although CNBC has been taking some hits lately, some well deserved, Griffeth was always a beacon of professionalism. Griffeth, who I first came to know watching FNN in college, is someone I respected to bring me quality and timely information of market developments and ask the pertinent questions when interviewing guests. Although we will continue to have Griffeth's on air wife (longtime anchor parter and equally professional Sue Herrera), highly thought of Michelle Caruso-Cabrera and the upstart Dennis Kneale, it won't be the same Power Lunch without Bill.

I wish him well and look forward to welcoming him back.

The ACC, which in my opinion had gotten fairly close to the SEC in recent years, has now fallen quite far behind. Last season, not withstanding GT dumping UGA soundly, you could see some slippage happening, but with South Carolina controlling Clemson, Georgia winning at Tech and Florida playing name that score with Florida State, it clearly shows the gap has again widened....Speaking of the mediocre ACC, Al Groh is out at Virginia, deservedly so.....The ACC Championship game in Tampa, no doubt conceived to produce Miami-FSU games, will have plenty of empty seats with Clemson and Georgia Tech coming off ugly defeats....Notre Dame again got plenty of offense but could not stop Stanford and dropped to 6-6, which should open the door for the departure of Charlie Weis. I agree with Kirk Herbstriet that it seems Weis is mentally ready for the boot. Notre Dame is still a top five job, and there is no reason they cannot be among the nations elite on the field annually..... Toby Gerhart of Stanford is quite player, and he is solid on my post season All America team...Texas disposed of rival A&M at Aggieland but got gashed on defense, and that cannot bode well. Nebraska has the defense to hang with Texas in the Big XII title game but on offense, the 'Huskers are pedestrian...Somehow, Tennessee beat Kentucky for the 25th consecutive time....Auburn came out swinging but got dumped by Bama with a minute to go....Oklahoma State got blanked by OU, a stinging loss considering what was on the line. This season had the makings of special one for the Pokes coming in, but it has been anything but, and that goes for you too Ole Miss. How do you get stomped by lowly Mississippi State getting nearly 50 hung on you....The border game between Missouri and Kansas was a good one, and now we wait to see if KU coach Mark Mangino gets let go....Will Terry Bowden emerge at one of the upcoming openings?

Thankfully, my Seminoles will not have to deal with Tim Tebow again. Tebow dismantled the 'Noles Saturday. For the 'Noles, it was tough with a backup quarterback and our best offensive lineman out. It would not have mattered, particularly considering how bad the defense is. I can play safety better than the ones we put on the field, but with Tebow directing the opposing offense, it would have taken Ronnie Lott to make a difference. Tebow is the man, on and off the field, and as talented a player as I have seen. He is quite deserving of all his accolades and awards.

For the first time, Bobby Bowden hinted publicly he may not be back in 2010 to coach the Seminoles. As I have previously stated, I think he will be back provided Jimbo Fisher selects the new defensive coordinator. If Bowden is against that, then he will not be asked to return. Bowden once said he would get out if FSU was not getting it done on the field. Although the Seminoles should be a top ten team to start out 2010, the fact is we currently sit at 6-6, and no matter the reason, that just won't get it.

Palin Visits Central Florida

Sarah Palin visited Orlando last night on her Going Rogue book signing tour. The lines were long, both in the morning waiting for the wristband and at night to get in. She was very pleasant and had many family members with her. It was also enjoyable speaking with the others in the line as it wrapped around the buildings.

Lawbreaker Finds Palin Dangerous

Martha Stewart, bitter former talk show host, author and magazine publisher and convicted felon, delivers some scathing commentary about former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Take a listen:



Normally, the comments of someone so insignificant as Stewart would not register on my list of things to make commentary on, but I found the nature of her comments demonstrative of much more than her opinion and therefore commentary was warranted.

Stewart, as she is entitled to her own opinion, refers to Palin as boring and confused. Well, speaking of boring, I am hard pressed to think of a Hollywood celebrity as boring as Stewart. Confused? It seems to me Palin has her compass set square. Stewart, on the other hand, conveyed to us in a courtroom she was confused. Confused about rules regarding fraud, indeed.

Stewart pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice after being charged with insider trading. As an elitist, she got a watered down sentence you and I would likely have not gotten.

Martha labeled Pain as dangerous. I think folks who commit fraud, lie to federal investigators and obstruct justice are dangerous. As an avid stock trader, I have little room for those involved in insider trading, as I feel the trades in the pit should be on an even playing field. Did my mutual fund get the same opportunity to dump ImClone (IMCL:NASDAQ) (now a subsidiary of Eli Lily(LLY:NYSE))?

I am thrilled to be on opposite sides of the field from Stewart. I find Stewart an elitist who, in her arrogance, looks down those who may challenge the position she and her cohorts exist in. No wonder she finds Palin dangerous, because within the group she travels with, Palin is.

Tim Brando of CBS Sports had the line of the week, when he said CBS would return to Oxford, MS, where they redshirt Miss Americas, in a moment.... Arizona fans tasted it at the conclusion of their overtime loss to Oregon as the fans base was ready to storm the field until the Quack Attack found pay dirt with seconds remaining and winning it in double OT, leaving the fans aghast which prompted one fans to nail a Oregon cheerleader with a bottle. Nice?.....By all measure, Charlie Weis has to be gone at Notre Dame, unless the economic conditions are hitting them more than we know, which I think may be the case....And at Kansas as well, where allegations of verbal abuse has Mark Mangino, a hero 16 months ago, on the edge of losing his job. Economics may not let KU fire him, but the allegations are in fact true, he has got to go no matter the costs. Kirk Herbstriet said it best that some former players better come to his defense..... Very sorry to hear about the death of Stephanie Speilman, wife of Buckeye great Chris Spielman, after a long battle with Breast Cancer. Chris Spielman exhibited love and support for his wife and family that is a playbook for how to be a husband and father, and I for one am praying for him and his family and have learned from the lessons he taught.....Nebraska's offense is very pedestrian but the defense is smothering behind the play of dominating tackle Ndamukong Suh, who is a special player.......LSU gave it away at Ole Miss, but if the Tigers had a better offense, they would have had nothing to worry about.....Florida State will extend the bowl streak, but it took a huge late effort by a trio of freshman to get it done, sending off retiring DC Mickey Andrews out a home winner....North Carolina and Ole Miss are starting to show why everyone had them ranked highly heading in, but it is too little now....Clemson has finally not faltered late and won the ACC Atlantic......Georgia blew a big lead hosting Kentucky and lost, and with Georgia Tech this weekend, 6-6 looks like the mark, which ain't good.

Arguing With The Idiots

Glenn Beck hit Orlando today on his Arguing With Idiots tour. There was a huge crowd of hard working Americans who waited for hours to get a moment with Glenn. The fans were not disappointed. Beck will unleash a new level of attacking idiots, and politicians, at The Villages on Saturday. I will be with the Seminoles on Saturday, so I came out to say Hello and thank Glenn today.

Dithering Dimwit

Via the The Drudge Report, Obama has made some commentary on the time table for his decision on the troop request from General McCrystal. President Obama reportedly told CNN that he is "very close" to a decision on the troop request and will have an announcement "in the next several weeks".

Meanwhile, during all the golf games, vacationing abroad, and armchair quarterback analyzation, our troops are fighting for their lives, some of which have been lost.'

Our President seems to be looking for a way out, not using all our efforts to secure victory. I have no confidence he is interested in victory. At any rate, after claiming he had all the answers, he is in fact dithering and this behavior is unforgivable.

Healthcare Hoodwink

One of the top news stories of the day was new information regarding Breast Cancer, and as usual, I can see beyond the cloaking device at what is really going on.

First, the news. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force adjusted their stance recommending mammogram for women over 40 to only once a year for those over 50 reported the Wall Street Journal. In addition, they advised against physicians teaching women self testing techniques upon new information they are of little value.

Quoting the Wall Street Journal article, The task force, which receives funding from the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality but is independent from the government, last issued guidelines for breast cancer in 2002. "The task force isn't saying there isn't a benefit" to screening women in their 40s, but "we're saying the benefit is small," Dr. Petitti said. "The change really is a change between do it routinely and don't do it routinely." Women 40 and older who are free of any symptoms should talk with their doctors and decide with them whether to put off screening for a few years, she said.

Who is AHRQ you may ask? They describe themselves on their website as "The health services research arm of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), complementing the biomedical research mission of its sister agency, the National Institutes of Health."

Although many articles are hitting private insurance on this one, including representatives of the Susan G. Komen Foundation as noted in the WSJ article, I find the opposite. As our government prepares to take over the health care industry, they are finding ways to cut costs. On such area appears to be by delaying testing of breast cancer through expensive mammograms.

In private business, cutting costs is a prudent measure. But in the case of your health battling the deadly disease of cancer, this type of thinking could cost you your life. Dr. BAHL, not a MD by any stretch of the imagination but having gleefully performed many breast examinations in my day, highly recommends that not withstanding the governmental noise, women check early and often! Save the Tatas! And perhaps, your life!

It seems to me that this is an example of where Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, through arms of the government, are already choosing a level in healthcare where winners and losers collide. Market forces, you and your physician should be the ones making these decisions, not bureaucrats, or as Sarah Palin accurately pointed out, death panels, with hidden agendas.

I Hear Voices

Voices were heard at the final stop of The Tea Party Express in Orlando last Thursday evening. About 4500 Central Floridians showed up to let their voice be heard on a Chamber of Commerce (another Obama target) evening.

It was a pleasure to see Katy Abram, the woman who railed on Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania at a town hall meeting, at the event.

Bill Clinton is not impressed by the Tea Party movement as reported from a closed door meeting he had with Democrats this past week. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) quoted Clinton arguing: "The reason the tea-baggers are so inflamed is because we are winning."

Winning at what?

No doubt, the Obama administration has thoroughly defeated all the previous administrations, combined, in expanding the federal deficit.

Obama is winning his assault on small business, shackling them with excessive regulation and taxation. I know this first hand.

High marks are given to the administration for the crushing of the dollar and overheating the printing presses.

Never has an administration covered such vast territory in apologizing to the world for all the United States successes.

Although the administration fired out rhetoric proclaiming it would be the most transparent of all, they have been quite slippery in rushing through bills not only have the American people not read, but neither have the Congressional representatives who are voting on them.

The level of proficiency in working around the back door of Congress by creating a full bench of Czars is unparalleled.

This administration will go down in history as the best at promoting the most radical moonbats possible as non elected policy makers.

Winning at the level of associations with thugocratic union types. Check.

Obama is winning on his efforts to seize control over large portions of the private sector, if you can believe that here in America.

The running of the two wars the US is engaged in; into the ground.

Home runs on transforming the United States of America and plotting the evil transfer of wealth through Cap and Trade and The Health Care abomination.

No damn wonder the tea party folks are mad. Any free market capitalist American would be! The administration and its operatives, like Mr. Clinton, want to and are discrediting those speaking out.

Because they hear voices. I Hear Voices!

There were some serious decleaters this weekend, but few rivaled the collision that took place in Stillwater as Poke QB Zac Robinson got blasted on the way to paydirt.


Like many, I thought Stanford would take out a limping USC, but I had no idea they would dismantle the Trojans the with such authority. The game was not close and apparently the handshake at the end of the game between Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh did not go well......OU, who Nebraska held without a touchdown last week for the first time under Bob Stoops, made Texas A&M pay for it.....Florida is winning ugly but I doubt it will catch up to them......Michigan will have consecutive losing seasons and that cannot be sitting well.....Notre Dame had a comeback effort but lost at Pittsburgh and one has to think Brian Kelly is on his way to South Bend.....Georgia had just enough in the tank to get by Auburn.....Tennessee got blasted at Ole Miss, and the Rebels looked like the team many thought they would be coming into the year.....TCU is for real, and they smacked Utah hard.....USF got shutout for the first time in school history at the Rutgers, and it was worse that the 31-0 score indicated..... UCF got a big time win for homecoming, defeating a ranked team for the first time ever in dumping Houston and cancelling Cougar quarterback Case Keenum as a potential Heisman winner.....Texas got all over a fairly decent Baylor team and may be peeking about the right time.....It sure does look like Alabama is better than Florida, but the Gators may just play to the competition.

Florida State salvaged the season behind quarterback EJ Maunel, who in his first start and only real gametime action looked brilliant at Wake Forest as the 'Noles looked like the team that flattened BYU. Beat Maryland at home this week and that will extend the bowl streak to 28. I am sure EJ earned some tomahawks for his performance, but where to put them as we roll out black helmets next week.

Freedom Rang in '89

A celebration took place today in Berlin, attended by our Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, marking the 2oth anniversary of the Berlin wall coming down.

Surprisingly, President Barack Obama was busy and could not attend. One would have to wonder what was so busy to preclude him from attending. Was it date night or movie night? Well, Monday is bowling day at the White House. Missing Tuesday is out of the question, for that is poker day and Obama could perhaps get a fizbin? I know it was not his deliberation on the troop requests, since there has been none. Perhaps his help was needed in ramming the unconstituional health care bill down our throats. At any rate, he should have gone, as it is an opportunity gone by for a few shout outs!

The media is not impressed that the freedom rang back on that day. in fact, some in the media openly question the role of the US, and wonder if our ego is at play?

Speaking of ego, when Obama visited Berlin on his apology tour and referenced the wall coming down, he did mention John F. Kennedy and of course himself. On this anniversary, he did find time to send a video praising himself, but failed to mention those who bravely stood before him. In fact, the architect of the event was not mentioned, at that time or today, which is beyond alarming.

I was a senior in college when the torch was lit, and although much of the elite media have conveniently forgot the events as they unfolded and who was responsible, I have not. And, so you don't either, here is the man, dictating events and orchestrating freedom and free market capitalism at every turn.

Javid Best of California got seriously hurt in a touchdown leap for the ages, but he will recover. It was scary, and I am quite happy the young man will be fine.....Navy has now sunk Notre Dame tow years in a row, and now one has too wonder if the Irish will be making a coaching change....Bill Snyder can coach, and this is obvious if you look at the progression of Kansas State this year......Colorado will be making a coaching change,and Memphis fired Tommy West today....LSU lost several key players in the contest versus Alabama, got ripped off on an interception by the officials and fell to the Crimson Tide, who secured a spot versus Florida in the SEC Title game.....Ohio State stymied Penn State fairly easily......Never have there been so few quality teams out there.....Jim Harbaugh is doing a great job at Stanford and onemay wonder if he may be a candidate to come home to Michigan, cause Rich Rod ain't what he is cracked up to be......Iowa, finally, was exposed as the fraud they are.....Oklahoma now has 4 losses and may be looking at a few more, perhaps missing a bowl....South Carolina is in the midst of yet another late season collapse.

The Florida State Seminoles held Clemson in check on the road for three quarters, but could not hold the fourth as Clemson pulled away. Seminole quarterback Christian Ponder, playing with broken ribs apparently, was not himself throwing 4 picks. Late in the game, he made a touchdown saving stop on one of them and wrecked his shoulder, ending his season. This spells even more trouble for FSU, as the consecutive bowl streak at 27 seems to be coming to an end unless EJ Manuel can light it up, which is not probable. Ponder had a great season, and was about the only bright spot in a dismal year for us Seminoles.

Nebraska, behind a dominating defense, held Oklahoma without a touchdown for the first time under Bob Stoops and dumped the Sooners in Lincoln. This particular Oklahoma fan is sickened at the thought of it and did not like it one bit. This rivalry was once tops in the country and the teams and fans continue to have the utmost respect for each other. GBR!

Systematic Deception

It is most unfortunate that much of the country is not engaged enough to warp their arms around the deception being thrown at them by the Obama administration and our Congress. Even more distressing is the arrogance and thought process behind the hood winking of the public, from incorrect job numbers, saved jobs and hidden aspects of bills being rushed without proper review.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi warns that she will make every effort to push trough this 2000 page bill no one has had time to read this weekend. So much for the transparency Obama campaigned on. Are they hiding something? Why the rush? Sarah Palin accurately calls out the administration on her Facebook page .

Unemployment is now at 10.2% (due to the policies implemented and the free market interference of this administration in the aftermath of a bubble bursting) and things seem to be spiraling out of control, and under the sense of emergency that appears to exist, the government is asking you to trust them as they take power away from from you, through health care and cap & trade for example, and aim to dictate your life.

Our founding fathers wanted limited government, and as Ronald Reagan once said, as government expands, liberty contracts:

Michele Bachmann (R:MN) correctly indicates that the time is now to make sure your voices are heard in an effort to defeat a governmental takeover of our health care system, which would allow these incompetents unprecedented intrusion into our lifestyle. Please take a listen:



Now, how can you insure another 45 million extra people without increasing the amount of Doctors all the while being deficit neutral and not rationing care? You do not have to be Milton Friedman to recognize this dog won't hunt.

It is far time for this nation to exercise some common sense, not steal individual wealth for the common good!

Although I am told four buses are leaving from Orlando, I cannot join them. However, and this should be fun, I will be playing Doctor and making some house calls on my representatives on Friday. Can You Hear Me Knockin!

Going Galt

Ran across this story on the popularity of Ayn Rand on Reason TV, who is having a week long perspective on Ayn Rand, and found it interesting. Please see the piece:



It a subject I have written about before and the ever growing popularity of Ayn Rand and her classic Atlas Shrugged was addressed in a recent column by Wall Street Journal Senior Economic Writer Steve Moore.

For the uninitiated, the moral of the story is simply this: Politicians invariably respond to crises -- that in most cases they themselves created -- by spawning new government programs, laws and regulations. These, in turn, generate more havoc and poverty, which inspires the politicians to create more programs . . . and the downward spiral repeats itself until the productive sectors of the economy collapse under the collective weight of taxes and other burdens imposed in the name of fairness, equality and do-goodism says Moore.

It is no wonder, with leeches coming from everywhere including our own government, that entrepreneurs and capitalists across the fruited plain are attending every tea party possible.

Moore's column, written in January, and the 5o year old classic itself, are incredibly relevant to the goings on today and they demands your immediate attention. The fundamental transformation of our country is fully engaged by the progressives and the time remaining to thwart these economic imbeciles is running out! Go Galt!

Outside of the the top 3, and a once blemished Oregon, is anybody really any good?...Speaking of the Quack Attack, they pulverized USC, handing the Trojans the worst loss of the Pete Carroll era....Florida owns Georgia, officially....It appears that Lane Kiffin is building a winner in Rocky Top....The Atlantic Coast conference is quite average....Florida State is offensive on defense, but QB Christian Ponder can bail them out most days anyhow....Texas dismantled Oklahoma State and appears set for the National Title game...We will learn at least one thing when Ohio State visits Penn State this weekend....And OU is at Lincoln to battle the Cornhuskers in what was once the annual battle to be seen....TCU, Boise State and Cincinnati, unlike BCS imposter's in recent years, are all quite good football teams...LSU travels to Alabama for another big one in the SEC and the Tigers better find some offense....Miami escaped Wake Forest, keeping BCS dreams alive....Iowa keeps on winning but they are not upper level....North Carolina dumped Va. Tech, leaving one to wonder what happened to the trendy preseason pick of the Heels, and speaking of that, what in world are we to make of Ole Miss?...Tim Tebow took out the rushing touchdown record held by Bulldog Herschel Walker, ripping a run off against the Dawgs rubbing slat in the wound along the way.
